Understanding and Choosing the Right Privacy Level For Your Session’s Photos

As a photographer, ensuring that clients have choice in the privacy of their photos is important to me. In every contract, for every session, I ask clients what level of privacy they prefer for their photos. Each of you have the right to privacy, and just because I take photos of you doesn’t mean you have to give me permission to share them. Your memories are not required to be my “marketing material.”

What’s important to me is that your memories are preserved with these images & that you get to share them with those you wish to share them with.

I want each client who welcomes me into their moments - to feel respected, valued, and given a choice to decide what is best for them. Because your privacy is important, I have created this blog to help you decide what level of privacy is best for you & your photo session.

Below I’ll explain the three releases in my contract, followed by some info to consider when choosing what makes sense for you!

Full Model Release

A full model release gives me permission to utilize any of your photos on my website, social media, and other marketing materials– think business cards, photo guides, and ads.

Concealed Identity Release

A concealed identity release gives me permission to utilize any photos that conceal the subject(s) identity(ies) on my website, social media, and other marketing materials– think business cards, photo guides, and ads.

***These photos are a normal part of my process. My work focuses on connection, meaning these little moments capture my attention very easily & naturally.

No Release

This means you don’t want any photos online or in marketing materials & that is 200% supported here! Some of my favorite sessions I have ever documented are kept private.

When considering what level of privacy is right for you, please know that there is no right or wrong answer. You also do not have to qualify your answer. I will not ask questions, and I don’t need to know details. You deserve the level of privacy you’d prefer just because you are human.

I always use discernment in sharing photos from your session. I do not share photos that are deeply personal, emotional, or intimate. If there is ever a moment where I share an image you would prefer not to be shared - don't hesitate to reach out.

Nobody will ever see your full gallery unless you give them the link– I do not share the links to galleries with anyone but my client who I have a contract with. If you have given permission for me to share photos with a publication or vendor, I will make a separate gallery with a selection of photos relevant to that person or entity.

Regardless of your privacy selection, I will never submit a session to a publication or share a gallery of selected photos from your session with a vendor without permission. I will always ask you if I can share with the vendor or submit your session prior to doing so.

Lastly, you can always change your mind. To do so, email me at hello@jasminetafoyaphoto.com and let me know that you would like to change your privacy selection. There will be no questions asked, and I will remove the use of your images from my website, social media, and marketing materials as soon as possible.

Warmly,

Jas (she/her)
